When Engage raised the question of over-tourism back in 2021 we didn’t quite realise just how big an issue it was and how extensive across Europe would be the reaction of residents to the numbers of tourists visiting the places where they live – or at least are trying to live.

Our seminar series entitled Destination Liverpool was an attempt to start a conversation in Liverpool so that we might work closely with our Destination Marketing Organisation to make sure that we put into practice right now processes that will make sure we don’t end up in the same place as other cities a few years down the line.

We have seen this summer new eruptions of anti-tourism reactions and the responses of some places to mitigate residents concerns. Here are a few articles we have read and would like to share with you. We intend to keep the conversation going! Are you listening Liverpool?
