There’s much more Porto than port wine. So much more, in fact, that it is fast becoming one of Europes key tourist destinations, with visitors flocking to Portugals second city to bask in its stunning architecture and great parks, to eat famously good seafood and tap into its vibrant cultural scene. The historic is also a World Heritage Site – remember those?

But with an ever increasing influx of tourists, how does a city remain viable for those that live there and can a place have more visitors and protect the things it cherishes?

What can we learn about sustainable tourism from Porto, Portgual?

In this, this second seminar in a three-part series, we hear from Ricardo Valente, Porto’s Councillor for Economy, Tourism and Commerce, about Porto’s commitment to sustainability in their tourism offer. Ricardo’s contribution will be followed by responses from a panel of Liverpool City Region based experts, and audience Q&A.

Notes for attendees

1. The venue for this seminar has changed to the new LJMU Student Life Building, 10 Copperas Hill, Liverpool, L3 5AH, on the site of the old Copperas Hill Royal Mail sorting office. The Student life Building has a cafe on the ground floor which can be used for a drink and snack before the seminar which will be held on the 3rd Floor Room 303.

2. You must wear a mask inside the LJMU Student Life Building, unless exempt. It is an important moment for us to show our respect for the students and their regulations. Once you are seated in the seminar room, you can remove your mask.

3. We’ll attempt to space out the seating, to maintain some distance between you and other guests, but this is not a socially distanced event. Online tickets are available for those who’d rather join from home, and online attendees will still be able to contribute to the Q&A at the end of the event.

4. In the run-up to the event, if you are told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, or you develop COVID-19 symptoms, you should not attend the in-person event. Contact us and we’ll refund your ticket, and send you details for joining as an online attendee.

5. Due to COVID restrictions we won’t be offering our usual tea, coffee and sandwiches but there is a cafe on the ground floor.

6. After the seminar ends at 7:30 PM, you are welcome to join the speakers and the Engage team probably in the cafe on the ground floor, which is open until 9:00 PM.
